Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
Spees Design Build (SDB) is seeking a full-time Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) to join our team.
SDB is a design-build firm that specializes in providing architecture, engineering, and project management consulting services. We are a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business with offices in the Pacific Northwest and in the Southeast. Remote work is also an option for certain roles. The Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) will be part of the dynamic A/E Design team within SDB’s Design-Bid-Build operations. This team is currently involved in the design of various project types throughout the United States including projects within the Veterans Affairs Medical Center systems. The position collaborates with all other design discipline staff and will help build the team’s engineering design department.
Required Qualifications:
Services performed by Spees Design Build includes work for the Federal Government - Department of Veterans Affairs VA Medical Centers (VAMC). This program involves renovation of the existing buildings in support of multi-disciplinary modernization efforts.
- Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
- Graduate of an Architectural, Engineering, or Construction Management college curriculum with a four (4) year degree, or 8 additional years of experience.
- Candidate must be knowledgeable of the management of repair and renovation projects across all phases of the project: pre-design, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout. The candidate may be required to prepare scopes of work, review design deliverables, inspect construction progress, monitor contract compliance, process change requests, and oversee commissioning activities.
- Ten (10) years of specialized experience in developing and maintaining complex, long-term/multi-year project management activities, including 1-3 years preferred technical expertise in the field of commercial or Government communications infrastructure.
- Demonstrated and verifiable experience in the design and/or construction of capital improvement projects valued at more than $5M.
- Strong technical aptitude and proficiency in PC usage hardware and software.
- Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes to break down and resolve complex technical issues.
- Ability to obtain federal government computer access by successfully passing a security screening, which may include fingerprinting, financial, and criminal background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education, experience, or certification in communication system design.
- Experience in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Fire Protection, Security Systems, Structural, and Architectural design and/or construction.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing, with experience preparing correspondence, and written reports, maintaining official project records, conducting meetings, and briefing clients and management personnel.
- Knowledge of construction practices and techniques, e.g., proper applications of construction materials and methods of installation.
- Ability to interpret/coordinate Architectural/Engineering plans and specifications and ability to evaluate proper systems to meet scope requirements.
- Ability to verify the adequacy of building systems related to respective disciplines.
- Familiarity with modern construction products (i.e., quality, and applications).
- Ability to inspect materials, workmanship, and construction and installation of various systems in the Architect's or Engineer's area of expertise.
- Knowledge of safety practices in the construction industry, including specifically, a background that indicates familiarity with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety requirements on construction projects.
- Knowledge of applicable codes related to their disciplines.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of building code and Joint Commission requirements for healthcare facilities and work with permitting agencies.
- Experience in developing and maintaining complex, long-term/multi-year project management activities, including but not limited to:
- Developing funding strategies and managing budgets.
- Scheduling and coordinating project interactions among existing and newly occupied facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage interdisciplinary teams and to integrate competing and/or conflicting elements into the planning and execution processes so that project requirements flow smoothly.
- Experience and familiarity with Federal and local government building projects, and with procedural, review, and approval requirements.
- In-depth experience in interpreting construction drawings and specifications on construction projects.
- Ability to accurately calculate construction costs for changes. Experience in making materials take-offs for construction work, pricing the value of needed work, and negotiating equitable contract adjustments.
- Ability and experience in the inspection of materials, workmanship, and construction and installation of various systems (such as fire alarm systems) within the inspector's area of expertise.
- Familiarity with related engineering fields, including civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Familiarity with the International Building Code, NFPA (including NFPA 101 Life Safety Code), OSHA requirements, and general healthcare design.
- Ability to use and access VA Master Specifications, Design Guides, and Design Manuals.
- Ability to use AutoCAD and Revit for basic tasks.
- Full knowledge of engineering and architectural concepts, principles, and practices for the design, layout, and construction of medical facilities, associated buildings, parking, roadways, and site utilities.
- Experience with ADA-compliant construction, remodeling, and renovations
- Able to read, understand, and apply standards to complex documents affecting construction projects, including but not limited to agreements/contracts, work letters, project charters, surveys, and drawings.
- Experience with construction project management, for both renovations and new construction.
